The production of cosmetics according to cosmetics GMP
Good Manufacturing Practice for cosmetic products (cosmetic GMP) has been established for years. For the EU market article 8 of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 on cosmetic products (EU Cosmetics Regulation) is pivotal. It contains the Cosmetics GMP Guide (ISO standard 22716). The guide covers quality-related product aspects of manufacturing, monitoring, and storage, as well as shipping of cosmetic products. It applies to cosmetics manufacturers as well as to distribution and trading companies.
The aim of cosmetic GMP is to manufacture cosmetic products reproducibly in the desired quality and, above all, ensure a high level of health protection.
Explicit certifications according to ISO standard 22 716 do not exist. However, German control authorities have developed an official test procedure list for company controls, in which the legal requirements for official controls of cosmetic GMP are listed according to a point system for company evaluation (risk assessment).
For the US market, the federal food, drug and cosmetic act (FD & C Act) is pivotal. Good Manufacturing practice GMP requires a checklist for cosmetics.
